India wrapped up a successful campaign at the 22nd Asian U20 Athletics Championships by securing three gold medals on the final day. The highlight was the women’s 4x400m relay team, which not only clinched gold but also set a new championship record of 3:38.07s. This achievement helped India secure the second position overall, just behind host nation China.
The Indian contingent concluded the championships with a total of 19 medals, including 10 gold, five silver, and four bronze medals. This impressive haul placed India ahead of third-placed Japan, which managed to secure 18 medals. China dominated the medal tally with a total of 25 medals, including 14 golds.
In the men’s 4x400m relay event, the Indian team comprising Piyush Raj, Sayed Sabeer, Ranjith Kumar S, and Mohammed Ashfaq secured a bronze medal with a time of 3:05.54s. This performance not only earned them a podium finish but also set a new Indian U20 national record. The race witnessed a high level of competition, with all three medalists surpassing the previous meet record set by Japan in 1999.
The final day of competition also saw India’s Muskan clinch gold in the women’s 5,000m event with a time of 16:53.08. Another standout performance came from Venkatram Reddy Mogali, who set a personal best of 1:48.27s to claim the men’s 800m title. These victories, along with other notable achievements in field events and relays, underscored the depth of talent in Indian junior athletics.
