India expressed strong condemnation for the recent attacks on two vessels, MT Al Bahiyah and MT Mombasa, as they passed through the Strait of Hormuz. Among the crew of 46 on board, 30 were Indian seafarers. Tragically, one Indian national lost his life on MT Al Bahiyah, while others sustained injuries.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) conveyed its deepest condolences to the deceased seafarer’s family and wished a speedy recovery to the injured. Indian authorities in the UAE are closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with local authorities to assist affected Indian seafarers. The MEA summoned the Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of Iran in New Delhi to lodge a strong protest against the attacks.
India strongly denounced the violence targeting seafarers and disrupting navigation in international waterways like the Strait of Hormuz. The country emphasized the need to halt such attacks and escalate hostilities in the West Asian region. India called for an immediate cessation of violence and a return to dialogue and diplomacy for peace, security, and stability in the region. The ministry urged an end to targeting commercial shipping and civilian infrastructure to restore free navigation in the region in accordance with international law.
