India is set to host the BRICS Heads of Anti-Drug Agencies Meeting in Guwahati, Assam, on July 6–7. The meeting aims to enhance cooperation among member countries to combat narcotics trafficking, focusing on synthetic drugs, intelligence sharing, and operational coordination. Officials will discuss various global challenges, including digital technology for drug interdiction and measures to reduce drug demand.
The Narcotics Control Bureau of the Ministry of Home Affairs will host the two-day meeting, bringing together senior officials from BRICS member countries. Sessions will cover topics such as darknet-enabled trafficking, emerging psychoactive substances, and strengthening global supply chains against precursor diversion. The meeting will conclude with the adoption of a joint declaration to strengthen operational coordination.
India sees this meeting as a crucial step in transitioning BRICS cooperation towards structured collaboration against drug-related threats. The country aims to showcase its efforts in combating drug trafficking and addressing public health concerns related to drug abuse. India’s approach includes stringent actions against illicit drug trafficking, awareness campaigns, community involvement, and treatment for addiction.
New Delhi, as the BRICS Chair, plans to enhance cooperation through information sharing, monitoring of precursor chemicals, intelligence exchange, and joint training programs. The country recently released the Vision Document on Narcotics Control (2026–2029) to bolster its capacity in the fight against drugs. India’s BRICS Chairship theme, “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation, and Sustainability,” aligns with a people-centric approach advocated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
