India is set to witness the launch of its first high-speed rail service on August 15, 2027, as announced by Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. The project, a collaboration with Japan, is currently under construction on the Mumbai–Ahmedabad high-speed rail corridor. The initial operational section is planned from Surat to Bilimora, followed by Vapi to Surat.
Various political leaders have hailed the bullet train project as a significant developmental milestone and a matter of national pride. JD(U) National Spokesperson Rajeev Ranjan Prasad emphasized that initiatives like the bullet train should be viewed beyond political debates and recognized as part of the country’s development efforts. He highlighted the potential benefits for common people and the broader impact on national progress.
Shiv Sena leader Shaina NC also expressed pride in the announcement, emphasizing the collaborative effort with Japan and the technological advancements incorporated in the Mumbai–Ahmedabad high-speed rail corridor. She underscored the project’s potential to enhance commuter experiences and contribute to India’s journey towards becoming a developed nation.
The bullet train project is aimed at modernizing India’s rail infrastructure, reducing travel time, and stimulating economic activity along the corridor. With a clear timeline set by the government, the project is expected to symbolize India’s commitment to high-speed, world-class transportation infrastructure.
