India has received a request from Nepal for fertiliser supply due to disruptions faced by Nepal amidst the West Asian conflict. The Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, mentioned that Nepal is seeking 80,000 tonnes of fertiliser, including 60,000 tonnes of urea and 20,000 tonnes of DAP, from India through a government-to-government deal to ensure stable supplies during the paddy transplantation season.
Moreover, India has been providing energy products to neighboring countries like Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and upcoming arrangements with Mauritius. The supply of diesel to Bangladesh through a friendship pipeline and other energy products to Bhutan and Nepal is ongoing as per existing agreements.
Nepal’s urgent purchase of fertiliser was approved by the Cabinet after a shipment from the Gulf was disrupted. The supply, managed by India’s Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilisers Limited, is expected to reach Nepal by mid-August. This initiative is part of a broader memorandum of understanding signed in 2022 between India and Nepal for fertiliser supply.
