Aaron George’s brilliant 115 runs guided India’s Under-19 team to a historic victory over Afghanistan in the ICC Men’s Under-19 World Cup semi-final. Chasing a challenging target of 311, India successfully chased it down with seven wickets in hand. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s explosive 68 off 33 balls and skipper Ayush Mhatre’s 62 off 39 balls also played crucial roles in India’s win.
India’s stellar performance saw them reach their 10th World Cup final and sixth consecutive final appearance. George, who had a slow start in the tournament, shone brightly with partnerships including a 90-run opening stand with Sooryavanshi and significant contributions with Mhatre and Vihaan Malhotra.
Afghanistan had posted a competitive 310/4, powered by centuries from Faisal Shinozada and Uzairullah Niazai. Shinozada’s 110 off 93 balls and Niazai’s unbeaten 101 off 86 deliveries set a strong foundation. Despite some resistance from the Afghan batters, India’s bowlers managed to restrict them.
In a remarkable display of skill and determination, India’s young talents Sooryavanshi, George, and Mhatre successfully chased down the target, securing a spot in the final against England.
