The partnership between India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is set to deepen, reflecting a strong alignment and shared understanding amidst the West Asia crisis. The UAE Ambassador to India, Abdulnasser Alshaali, emphasized the familial bond between Indians in the UAE and the Emirati leadership, highlighting the robust societal and strategic ties. A report from the think tank ‘Politeia Research Foundation’ underlined the partnership’s foundation on mutual trust, interdependence, and long-term stability.
Amidst a fragile ceasefire in West Asia, the UAE faced significant damage from Iranian missile and drone attacks, with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries also affected. However, the report pointed out that the UAE’s interests were not adequately considered during peace talks in Islamabad, leading to frustration in the Emirates. The report highlighted a perceived lack of support from Pakistan during the conflict, causing the UAE to request repayment of a previous loan.
During this period, India maintained close communication with the UAE, with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar visiting to express solidarity post-ceasefire. Discussions between Jaishankar and the Emirati leadership focused on regional security, energy stability, and broader conflict implications. Both countries reiterated their commitment to the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and the welfare of the Indian diaspora in the UAE.
India’s unwavering support for the UAE was evident through condemnation of attacks on GCC countries and co-sponsorship of a UN Security Council resolution denouncing Iran’s assaults on Gulf nations. This diplomatic stance reaffirmed India’s backing for the UAE during the crisis, emphasizing the importance of respecting sovereignty and territorial integrity.
