India has reiterated its call for dialogue and diplomacy to address the ongoing conflict in Iran and the Gulf region. The Ministry of External Affairs emphasized the need for all sides to exercise restraint and prioritize civilian safety. The situation has worsened during the holy month of Ramadan, with escalating conflict and its spread to other nations.
The Ministry of External Affairs stated that India is closely monitoring the situation and engaging with regional governments and key partners. With nearly one crore Indian citizens residing in the Gulf region, their safety is a top priority. India also opposes attacks on merchant shipping and advocates for an early end to the conflict. Indian missions are actively assisting nationals affected by the crisis.
In response to criticism from Congress and the INDIA bloc, experts noted that the Indian government, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has taken a cautious approach to safeguard national interests. Past governments have also maintained a neutral stance in similar global conflicts.
