National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval expressed India’s positive reception of the memorandum of understanding between Iran and the US during the 16th BRICS National Security Advisors’ Meeting. Doval emphasized cautious optimism, highlighting the potential contributions to regional and global stability through the agreement. He noted the significance of the MoU in enhancing energy security and addressing supply chain challenges in sectors like fertilizers and chemicals.
The agreement, signed remotely by US President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on June 17, marked a pivotal step towards ending the conflict and initiating a 60-day negotiation period for finalizing terms related to Tehran’s nuclear program and regional security. India had earlier welcomed the MoU as a positive move towards peace, stability, and trade restoration in the region.
India’s Ministry of External Affairs reiterated the importance of sustained dialogue for lasting peace in West Asia, emphasizing the need for unimpeded navigation and global commerce flow through the Strait of Hormuz. India’s stance on de-escalation, dialogue, and diplomacy as crucial elements for resolving conflicts was reaffirmed by the Ministry.
