India has decided to bring back the families and dependents of Indian officials stationed in Bangladesh due to escalating security worries linked to increased extremist activities. The move has garnered support from leaders of the BJP, Shiv Sena (UBT), and the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD). This decision precedes the upcoming parliamentary elections in Bangladesh, set against a backdrop of heightened political tensions and reports of violence targeting minorities.

Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi emphasized the necessity of this step, citing the deteriorating law and order situation in Bangladesh. She highlighted the ongoing targeted killings and mob lynchings, stressing the importance of prioritizing the safety of Indian diplomats and their families. Chaturvedi also pointed out the surge in anti-India sentiments within Bangladesh.

Uttar Pradesh Minister Sanjay Nishad supported the government’s action, underlining the need for cautious and responsible measures. He expressed concerns over the emergence of extremist and anti-Hindu ideologies and emphasized the importance of India’s decision-making process in this regard.

RJD MP Manoj Kumar Jha suggested that the unfolding events in Bangladesh should have been foreseen earlier. He highlighted the need for continuous dialogue and understanding of the region’s unique geography and politics. Jha supported the withdrawal of families for security reasons, considering the concerning visuals emerging from Bangladesh.

BJP spokesperson Pratul Shah Deo voiced apprehension over the escalating violence ahead of Bangladesh’s general elections. He raised concerns about the targeted violence against Sanatanis and Hindus by jihadi elements, calling for a serious approach from the Bangladesh government to address the situation responsibly.

Congress media in-charge Rakesh Sinha questioned the efficacy of the decision to recall diplomats’ families, emphasizing the ongoing violence against Hindus in Bangladesh. Sinha urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take concrete actions in response to the situation, criticizing what he perceived as a lack of serious engagement on the issue.

There is currently no clarity on the timeline for the withdrawal of Indian officials’ families or whether they will return to India temporarily or permanently based on the evolving security scenario. Security measures have been heightened at Indian diplomatic posts in Dhaka, Chattogram, Khulna, Rajshahi, and Sylhet amid the strained relations between India and Bangladesh.
