India’s batter Jemimah Rodrigues expressed the team’s determination to capitalize on recent achievements and gear up with increased enthusiasm for the upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup. The team’s goal is to secure a second global title following their ODI World Cup victory on home turf last year. India, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, is aiming to clinch their first Women’s T20 World Cup, being placed in Group 1 alongside Australia, South Africa, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Netherlands.
“It was very inspiring for us, and I think the future of sports in India is bright – not just in cricket but in all fields. I can’t wait to see where it is going from here. I think its a bigger motivation now – since we have won one we want to make it two. So, looking forward to it,” Jemimah remarked. She emphasized the team’s hunger for continued success, stating, “After winning a World Cup you can get complacent but this team is even more hungrier to win it again and again and again. That’s the plan and that is the entire motive.”
Despite a recent 4-1 series loss to South Africa, Jemimah viewed it as a valuable learning experience. She highlighted the importance of setbacks, noting that failures offer significant lessons. The team is embracing the defeat positively, working diligently, and focusing on robust preparations to bounce back stronger for the World Cup.
Jemimah also mentioned that the team’s preparations for the T20 World Cup began immediately after their 2025 ODI World Cup triumph. With a training camp at the BCCI CoE before heading to England for three T20Is prior to the tournament, the team is dedicated to their goal of securing victory in the upcoming competition.
