In a significant development for India’s defense manufacturing aspirations, FWDA, an Indian AI warfare company, has revealed a strategic collaboration with Portuguese defense technology firm SKETCHPIXEL to produce the autonomous combat aircraft ‘Kaal Bhairava’ in Europe. This partnership signifies a major achievement for India’s indigenous defense technology sector, with Kaal Bhairava emerging as one of the initial Indian-designed AI combat aircraft models to enter European manufacturing and defense networks. SKETCHPIXEL, recognized for its work on advanced fighter jet simulation systems like the F-16 Fighting Falcon, will provide simulation technologies, AI integration systems, communication infrastructure, and interoperability capabilities for the aircraft platform.
Under the terms of the agreement, the European company will contribute expertise in simulation technologies, AI integration systems, communication infrastructure, and interoperability capabilities for the aircraft platform. Despite this collaboration, FWDA will retain intellectual property rights associated with the aircraft’s autonomous systems and airframe design. Kaal Bhairava, designed as a medium-altitude long-endurance autonomous combat aircraft with a range of 3,000 kilometers and an operational endurance exceeding 30 hours, is equipped with AI-driven target recognition systems, encrypted communications, and swarm coordination capabilities, positioning it as a next-generation autonomous warfare platform.
Unlike conventional aerospace initiatives that emphasize costly manned platforms, FWDA is establishing an ecosystem centered on autonomous airpower, swarm technologies, and advanced air defense systems. FWDA’s founder and CEO, Suhas Tejaskanda, highlighted that this partnership underscores the growing global interest in Indian-designed autonomous warfare technologies and showcases the integration of Indian defense innovation into global manufacturing networks. Tejaskanda also noted that Portugal’s strategic location and access to NATO-linked defense networks would facilitate expanding collaborative opportunities across Europe and supporting future global deployment pathways for their technologies.
The broader objective is to elevate India as a key player in the global defense export market, according to Suhas Tejaskanda. SKETCHPIXEL’s CEO, Miguel Abrue, emphasized that the collaboration would merge FWDA’s engineering, electronics, AI systems, and chip analysis expertise with SKETCHPIXEL’s strengths in simulation, interoperability, and military integration. Critical elements of the aircraft program, such as structural design, firmware development, communication systems, control mechanisms, and validation processes, will be jointly developed under stringent technological and safety standards.
