The Indian Air Force has identified the five personnel who lost their lives in the tragic AN-32 aircraft accident at Jorhat Air Force Station in Assam. The deceased include Squadron Leader Prashant Singh, Flight Lieutenant Shubham Kumar, Sergeant Jitendra Sharma, Agniveervayu Khemaram Kumawat, and Agniveervayu Danish Alam. The IAF described them as having made the “supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.”
In an official statement issued after the crash, the IAF expressed deep regret over the loss of the five personnel. The statement highlighted that Squadron Leader Prashant Singh, Flight Lieutenant Shubham Kumar, Sergeant Jitendra Sharma, Agniveervayu Khemaram Kumawat, and Agniveervayu Danish Alam had made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty. The IAF also conveyed condolences to the families of the deceased.
The accident occurred during a routine sortie at around 10 a.m. at the Jorhat airbase. The AN-32 transport aircraft met with an accident after landing and subsequently caught fire, leading to the deployment of emergency response teams. Technical teams have started examining the wreckage to determine the cause of the accident, with a formal Court of Inquiry expected to be initiated by the Air Force.
The AN-32 aircraft is crucial for military logistics and personnel movement, especially in challenging terrains like the Northeast and other remote operational areas. This incident at Jorhat is one of the most serious Indian Air Force aviation accidents in recent times, bringing sorrow to the defense establishment.
