The Indian Army’s Red Horns Division, part of the Gajraj Corps, organized a joint flood relief exercise named ‘Exercise Jal Rahat’ at the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati. This exercise aimed to enhance coordination between different agencies and improve disaster response capabilities in flood-prone areas. Various agencies like the Army, National Disaster Response Force, State Disaster Response Force, and Sashastra Seema Bal participated in this large-scale simulation.
The exercise simulated real-life flood scenarios and showcased a variety of rescue and relief operations, including deep-water rescue missions, evacuations, and the use of drones for surveillance and logistical support. It emphasized the importance of coordinated efforts in rescuing individuals and providing immediate assistance during floods. The event focused on boosting preparedness and response efficiency in the face of severe flooding, a common challenge in Assam and the Northeast region.
Lieutenant General Neeraj Shukla, the General Officer Commanding of Gajraj Corps, supervised the operational readiness of the participating units. He highlighted the significance of a comprehensive approach involving the entire society in disaster management. Stressing the principles of “Predict, Prepare, Protect, and Provide,” he emphasized the need for community involvement and resilience-building for effective disaster management. The exercise also aimed to build public confidence in the readiness of security forces and disaster response agencies.
