A 40-member Indian Army contingent, including two lady officers, took part in the opening ceremony of the 23rd edition of the Khaan Quest 2026 exercise in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. The exercise aims to boost cooperation among military forces globally for peace support operations under Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter. India’s participation underscores its dedication to global peacekeeping efforts and collaboration.
The Defence Ministry highlighted that Exercise Khaan Quest underscores India’s commitment to global peacekeeping and enhances operational readiness and mutual trust among participating nations. The event was inaugurated by Mongolia’s Minister of Defence, Batlut Damba, and Lieutenant General Ganbyamba Sunrev, Chief of Defence Staff of the Mongolian Armed Forces. India’s Ambassador to Mongolia, Atul Malhari Gotsurve, was also present at the ceremony.
The exercise involves over 1000 troops from 18 countries worldwide, with an Indian contingent from the Jat Regiment comprising 40 troops, including two lady officers. The event, which saw participation from 18 countries, was welcomed by Ambassador Gotsurve who extended best wishes for the Indian Contingent’s successful involvement. The previous edition of the exercise was held in Mongolia last year from June 14-28, with its origins dating back to a bilateral event between the US and Mongolian Defence Forces in 2003.
