An Indian Army veteran cautioned that United States President’s ambitions regarding Greenland may face challenges. Retired Brigadier Advitya Madan highlighted the potential consequences of US actions on NATO. He mentioned a joint troop exercise by eight European nations in Greenland as a message to the US.
Madan explained that the exercise was a symbolic move to deter US military operations in Greenland. He emphasized the impact on NATO if a member nation attacks another. The veteran noted the historical dependence of NATO countries on US leadership and military support.
The veteran pointed out that the US interest in Greenland is primarily driven by resources like rare earth minerals and hydrocarbons. He clarified that there is no immediate threat from Russia or China in Greenland. Madan recalled Trump’s previous interest in acquiring Greenland for its resources.
Eight European countries recently expressed concern over tariff threats and emphasized the importance of Arctic security. They reaffirmed their commitment to Arctic security as a shared interest with the US. The joint statement aimed to support Denmark and Greenland while upholding sovereignty and territorial integrity.
