The Boxing Federation of India (BFI) has announced a 12-member squad for the Grand Prix Usti nad Labem in Czechia, set to take place from June 17 to 21. Notable names in the squad include Olympic medallist Lovlina Borgohain and Asian Championships gold medallist Preeti Pawar. This tournament serves as a crucial step in India’s preparations for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow 2026.

The Indian team comprises top-ranked boxers in various weight categories for the Commonwealth Games. With significant international events approaching, this competition offers a valuable opportunity for the boxers to refine their skills, test different combinations, and gain exposure against tough international opponents in Europe.

The Grand Prix Usti nad Labem is a well-established boxing event in Europe, running for over 50 years. It will be held as a European Boxing Gold Tournament under World Boxing regulations, featuring competitions in 10 men’s and 10 women’s weight classes. This event will be a crucial test for Indian boxers as they gear up for a busy international schedule.

BFI President Ajay Singh emphasized the importance of the Grand Prix Usti nad Labem, highlighting it as a prestigious tournament that allows Indian athletes to compete against top global contenders. Singh expressed his confidence in the squad, emphasizing the significance of such opportunities for the boxers to gain experience, confidence, and exposure in diverse competitive environments. The BFI remains dedicated to providing quality international exposure to its athletes for their growth and success.
