India’s young boxing team excelled at the Asian U17 Boxing Championships, with five boxers progressing to the semifinals, guaranteeing at least five medals for the nation. Yash Yadav (50kg) triumphed over Kubanychbek Bolushov of Kyrgyzstan in a hard-fought match, securing a 4:1 victory in the quarterfinals. Nivesh Pal (54kg) continued the winning streak with a dominant 5:0 win against Shingen Kanai of Japan, earning a spot in the semifinals.
In the 70kg category, Naman Kumar displayed a commanding performance, defeating Ruzibek Miravotov of Tajikistan with a 5:0 decision. Lakshay Phogat (75kg) also impressed by securing a clinical 5:0 victory over Cheng-En Li of Chinese Taipei, advancing to the last four. However, Karung Albertson (60kg) faced a 0:5 defeat against Emir Mukhit of Kazakhstan.
Ranveer (66kg) also suffered a defeat with a score of 0:5 against Islam Suleimanogly of Kazakhstan, while Siddhant (+80kg) lost 0:5 to Sabyrzhan Sagym of Kazakhstan, concluding their campaigns in the championships. With four more medals assured, India’s total count in the U-17 boys category now reaches five, as the team aims for top finishes in the upcoming semifinals.
On the other hand, India’s U-17 girls continued their impressive performance at the Asian Boxing U15 & U17 Championships 2026, securing a total of 12 medals and showcasing their dominance at the continental level. Rakhi (46kg) led the charge with a composed victory over Chinese Taipei, while Khushi (48kg) displayed aggression with a first-round RSC win against Korea. Mamta (52kg) contributed to the medal tally with a strong RSC win in Round 2 against Jordan.
Among the notable performances, Laxmi (54kg) achieved a third-round RSC victory over Mongolia, and Navya (57kg) outclassed her Chinese opponent with a dominant 5:0 win. Ishika (60kg) continued the winning streak with an RSC win in Round 2 against Mongolia.
