Indian boxers Jyoti, Prachi, and Nikhil excelled on the second day of the Boxing World Cup (Stage 2) in China, securing victories in their respective weight categories. Prachi triumphed in the women’s 57kg division with a resounding 5-0 win over USA’s Deborah Grant, advancing to the next round.
Jyoti also advanced after a dominant performance in the women’s 48kg category, defeating Mongolia’s Enkh Amgalan Nomundari with a Referee Stops Contest (RSC) decision in the second round. This victory secured Jyoti a spot in the semifinals and a guaranteed medal for India. In the men’s 55kg division, Nikhil secured a hard-fought 3-2 split decision win against France’s Christopher Hippocrate, progressing to the next stage.
Looking ahead to Day 3, five Indian boxers are set to compete. Nikhil (55kg) aims to maintain his winning streak against Brazil’s Kelvy Trindade, while Deepak (70kg) faces Japan’s Sewon Okazawa. Malsawmtluanga (80kg) will take on Jordan’s Ashaish Hussein. In the women’s matches, Saneh (65kg) will challenge South Korea’s Seon Sujin, and Mahi Lama (60kg) will clash with Mongolia’s Monkhor Namuun.
In other matches on the second day, Poonam (54kg) narrowly lost 2-3 to Chinese Taipei’s Hsiao Wen Huang, and Akash (75kg) was defeated by Poland’s Mateusz Urban with the same score. Gitimoni also exited the competition after a 0-5 loss to France’s Maelys Richol in the women’s 70kg category.
