The Rugby Premier League (RPL) Season 2 began with a grand opening ceremony at Hyderabad’s Gachibowli Stadium. This marks the start of India’s top professional rugby competition, featuring six men’s franchises and four women’s franchises. Notable figures like Vakiti Srihari, Kiran Kumar Grandhi, Rahul Bose, and Shruti Haasan graced the event alongside other dignitaries and players.
Welcoming the league to Hyderabad, Vakiti Srihari, Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs, Telangana, expressed pride in hosting the RPL. He highlighted Telangana’s commitment to sports excellence and the significance of introducing women’s franchises. Jayesh Ranjan, Special Chief Secretary to the Government, emphasized Telangana’s vision of becoming a sports hub through infrastructure investments and athlete development.
A. Soni Bala Devi, Vice Chairperson & Managing Director of the Sports Authority of Telangana, lauded the support for RPL in Hyderabad, emphasizing the event’s role in strengthening the sporting ecosystem. Rahul Bose, President of Rugby India, shared his excitement for RPL 2026, promising an even more engaging season with increased international representation and the introduction of RPL Women.
The Rugby Premier League Season 2, building on the success of its debut edition, showcases elite rugby talent from around the world alongside India’s top players. Hyderabad will host the league from June 16 to 28, offering fans a thrilling experience of world-class rugby sevens action and further promoting the sport’s growth in the country.
