Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav revealed that his wife’s guidance helped him end a 468-day scoring drought by achieving his first half-century, aiding India’s seven-wicket victory over New Zealand in the second T20I at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium. In a video shared by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Player of the Match Ishan Kishan questioned Suryakumar about his slow start, to which Suryakumar credited his wife’s advice for his cautious approach at the beginning of the innings.
Suryakumar further elaborated on the impact of a three-week break and his decision to disconnect from social media, emphasizing the positive effect on his mental well-being and performance. He highlighted the importance of humility in cricket and the significance of translating practice success into match results for building confidence.
Discussing team dynamics, Suryakumar playfully nudged Abhishek Sharma, stressing the collective effort required for victory and dispelling the notion that India’s success solely hinges on individual performances. He emphasized the team’s unity and the need for every player to contribute to winning matches, regardless of individual accolades.
