Indian Oil Corporation Limited and the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) have launched hydrogen-powered buses in New Delhi, aiming to enhance clean and sustainable transportation in India. These buses, using green hydrogen produced at Indian Oil’s R&D center in Faridabad, will operate on the Central Secretariat to Kartavya Bhavan route, promoting eco-friendly public transport.
The Director of Refineries at IndianOil, Arvind Kumar, highlighted the environmental benefits of these buses, emphasizing that they emit only water, making them entirely pollution-free. He mentioned that the hydrogen fuel cell technology ensures zero emissions, contributing to a greener and healthier urban environment.
IndianOil is not only focusing on the two buses currently in operation but is also expanding its green hydrogen initiatives. Kumar revealed plans for a 10 KTA green hydrogen plant at the Panipat refinery, aiming to further integrate green hydrogen into mobility solutions as technology advances.
In line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s push for cleaner technologies, Kumar stressed the importance of promoting advanced low-carbon solutions like green hydrogen. He expressed confidence that more such initiatives, including hydrogen-powered buses, will be introduced to support sustainable transportation in the future.
Indian Oil Corporation is actively involved in trial projects with 15 hydrogen-powered buses across India, indicating a growing commitment to green hydrogen mobility. Despite challenges in global energy markets and crude oil supplies, Kumar assured that IndianOil’s refinery operations are stable, operating at full capacity to meet India’s energy demands.
Kumar reiterated India’s energy strategy focusing on security, affordability, and sustainability, emphasizing the need to balance these aspects for a robust energy future.
