An Indian parliamentary delegation, currently in Norway for a knowledge exchange tour, visited the Storting, Norway’s parliament, on Tuesday. Rajya Sabha MP Sasmit Patra expressed gratitude for the opportunity to learn about Norway’s parliamentary system and democratic traditions during the visit. The Storting, established in 1814 in central Oslo, consists of 169 elected representatives driving the country’s legislative framework.
The delegation also engaged with Eivind Vad Petersson, State Secretary for Foreign Affairs of Norway, to discuss strengthening India-Norway relations. Members of the delegation visited the University of Oslo for discussions on public policy, sustainability, and social sciences with Rector Ragnhild Hennum. They also met with Vice Mayor for Environment and Transport, Marit Kristine Vea, to discuss Oslo’s climate priorities and sustainable mobility.
Furthermore, the Indian MPs explored sustainability initiatives in Oslo, focusing on waste management, environmental systems, and Oslofjord conservation. They were hosted by Sigbjorn Tenfjord, Director for South Asia and Afghanistan at Norway’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, for a dinner emphasizing international cooperation and stronger ties between the nations.
