Indian Railways is gearing up to execute railway infrastructure projects worth Rs 1,00,000 crore in the near future, as stated by West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari following a meeting with Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw at the State Secretariat Nabanna. Adhikari mentioned that this massive investment will ensure every district in the state is well-connected through the railway network. He highlighted the shift from past delays, emphasizing that these projects will now be expedited.
Chief Minister Adhikari revealed that the Indian Railways Board and the Railway Minister had repeatedly reminded the previous state government led by Mamata Banerjee about pending railway projects, which were not adequately addressed. Despite past challenges, significant allocations have been made for railway projects in West Bengal, with a substantial amount earmarked for the upcoming fiscal year. Adhikari also announced plans for the construction of Amrit Bharat stations, flyovers, and underpasses across the state.
Furthermore, Adhikari assured that necessary land will be provided for the development of railway infrastructure, aiming to connect previously underserved districts like Karimpur, Tehatta, Jalangi, Gopiballabhpur, Nayagram, and Hili. The expansion plans encompass North Bengal, South Bengal, and Jangalmahal, promising enhanced connectivity and benefits for the residents. Additionally, Railways Minister Vaishnaw disclosed intentions to introduce a bullet train service in West Bengal, connecting New Delhi to Siliguri in just six hours, along with plans for 60 new train services in the state over the next five years.
