Indian badminton stars Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty had to withdraw from the Indonesia Open men’s doubles tournament during the first round. Satwik experienced discomfort in his right shoulder, leading to their early exit while playing against the Malaysian pair Kang Khai Xing & Aaron Tai.
The Badminton Association of India (BAI) confirmed the duo’s withdrawal from the Indonesia Open 2026 due to Satwik’s injury. The pair will now focus on recovery and rehabilitation to prepare for upcoming important tournaments. This setback is not new, as Satwik’s shoulder issue had previously caused their withdrawal from the Badminton Asia Championship earlier this year.
In a recent triumph, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty made history by becoming the first Indian men’s pair to win the Singapore Open. Despite their early exit in the Indonesia Open, the duo’s remarkable performance in the Singapore Open showcased their potential in the badminton circuit.
The Indian contingent at the BWF Super 1000 event saw mixed results, with Lakshya Sen exiting the tournament after his first-round defeat to Alwi Farhan of Indonesia. However, PV Sindhu, a two-time Olympic medallist, secured a victory in the first round against Thailand’s Busanan Ongbamrungphan. Additionally, the Indian men’s doubles pair of Hariharan Amsakarunan and MR Arjun caused an upset by defeating Malaysia’s Tan Wee Kiong and Nur Mohd Azriyn Ayub in the opening round.
