The Indian U18 Women’s Hockey team kicked off their Asia Cup campaign on a positive note by defeating Malaysia 2-1 in their first Pool A match. Forward Nousheen Naz, aged 15, shone in the game, scoring both goals for India and earning the ‘Player of the Match’ title for her outstanding performance.
In a closely contested encounter, the first quarter ended goalless as both teams tested each other’s defenses. Despite India’s dominance in possession and attacking opportunities, the Malaysian defense stood strong, maintaining a level scoreline after the initial 15 minutes.
India’s persistence paid off in the second quarter when Nousheen capitalized on a penalty corner in the 19th minute to give India a 1-0 lead. She extended India’s advantage just before halftime with another goal, securing a comfortable 2-0 lead going into the break.
Malaysia fought back in the second half, with Nur Azli scoring in the 41st minute to narrow the gap to 2-1. However, India’s disciplined defense held firm against Malaysian attacks, ensuring their victory in a tense final quarter.
Despite facing pressure, India showcased attacking prowess by earning 16 penalty corners, converting one directly. This victory places India second in Pool A, behind Korea, setting up a crucial match against Korea to further solidify their position in the tournament.
