Nearly 30% of Indian workers believe their jobs are secure, ranking India third globally and highest in the Asia Pacific region, according to a report by ADP Research. In the Asia Pacific region, only 18% of respondents feel confident about their job security, with no country reporting a majority of workers feeling secure in the long term. Globally, only 22% of workers strongly agree that their jobs are safe from elimination.
The report also noted that workers who feel secure in their jobs are more likely to stay, be fully engaged, and report high productivity. Despite India leading in the Asia Pacific region, there is still a noticeable gap between improving employment conditions and workers’ perceptions of long-term stability.
Rahul Goyal, Managing Director of ADP India and Southeast Asia, emphasized the importance of continuous upskilling for employees to remain competitive and for employers to be transparent about evolving roles. He highlighted that clear communication and sustained investment in skills development are crucial for enhancing employability, driving productivity, and building long-term workforce resilience.
Job security sentiment in India varies significantly by job type, with knowledge workers being more confident (37%) compared to skilled tasks (18%) and repetitive task workers (17%). Regionally, workers in the finance and insurance sector in the Asia Pacific region feel more secure in their jobs, while those in accommodation and food services express the lowest levels of job security confidence.
