India’s freestyle grapplers Akshay T Dhere and Vicky secured gold medals at the U23 Asian Championships in Da Nang, Vietnam. Akshay triumphed in the 57kg weight class by defeating Kazakhstan’s Yelaman Amangeldi 4-2. Vicky claimed victory in the 97kg division by beating Uzbekistan’s Sherzod Poyonov 7-5.
The Indian camp celebrated further successes with Muskan winning the 53kg final against Vietnam’s Thi My Linh Nguyen 6-2, and Tapsya dominating the 57kg category with a victory over Kazakhstan’s Altyn Shagayeva. Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) President Sanjay Singh praised the wrestlers for their exceptional performances, highlighting the bright future of Indian wrestling.
Bhagyashree H. Fand, Pulkit, and Amruta Shashikant Pujari added to India’s gold and silver tally in various weight divisions. Mansi Lather, Kajal, and Sumit also clinched gold medals in their respective categories, showcasing India’s dominance in the competition.
The Indian contingent secured additional silver and bronze medals, with Sweety and Neha earning silver medals, and Ahilya S. Shinde, Neeraj Patel, and Rohit Bura claiming bronze medals. The wrestlers displayed remarkable skill and determination throughout the championships, bringing pride to the nation.
