India’s Ambassador to South Korea, Gourangalal Das, recently took part in the enshrinement ceremony of Venerable Jigong (Dhyanabhadra), a revered 14th-century Indian Buddhist master known for influencing Buddhism in Korea. The event highlighted the deep civilizational and spiritual connections between India and South Korea, as stated by the Indian Embassy in South Korea.
The ceremony was made possible through the collaborative efforts of the India-Korea Buddhist partnership, involving the Jogye Order, the International Buddhist Confederation (IBC), the International Center for Cultural Studies (ICCS), and the Indian Embassy in South Korea. This gathering further emphasized the enduring spiritual heritage shared by India and Korea.
During a recent two-day visit to South Korea, External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar engaged in discussions with his South Korean counterpart Cho Hyun in Seoul. The talks encompassed various areas of cooperation, including shipbuilding, trade, investments, defense, technology, clean energy, culture, and people-to-people connections. EAM Jaishankar and Cho Hyun also explored potential collaborations in startups, fintech, and multilateral platforms.
Reflecting on the outcomes of President Lee Jae Myung’s visit to India last year, Cho Hyun highlighted the positive momentum in enhancing South Korea-India relations. Both EAM Jaishankar and Cho Hyun reviewed the progress made in trade, investment, and finance following the summit, aiming to further advance these areas. The officials also discussed responses to global economic shifts, particularly in light of developments in the Middle East.
EAM Jaishankar also met with South Korea’s National Security Director Wi Sung-lac to exchange strategic assessments on global developments and the Indo-Pacific region. The discussions emphasized the importance of close communication between the two countries in addressing evolving economic challenges.
