India’s Ambassador to China, Vikram Doraiswami, released a video message for the pilgrims of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra (KMY), emphasizing the ongoing preparations, sharing parikrama experiences, and offering key travel tips. The Ambassador and embassy colleagues visited the Parikrama around Mount Kailash and all entry points for the official Yatra. Stressing the significance of the location for local people, he mentioned the expected high number of visitors due to this special year in the Chinese and traditional Tibetan calendars.
He highlighted that the embassy team inspected not only the entry points but also the accommodations where pilgrims will stay, including kitchens, rooms, and medical facilities. The preparations, done in coordination with the Chinese government, are comprehensive, although challenges are anticipated. The region’s high altitude, with points above 3,500 meters and the Kora touching nearly 6,000 meters above sea level, was noted as a significant factor.
The Ambassador advised on appropriate clothing, health considerations, and oxygen levels for the pilgrims undertaking this revered religious journey to Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar in the Tibet Autonomous Region of China. This year, 500 pilgrims will embark on the yatra through the Nathu La route, divided into 10 batches with 50 participants each. Each batch will have a liaison officer and a medical assistant for support and coordination during the journey.
