The Indian government announced that the country’s broadband subscriber base exceeded 1 billion in November. Over the past decade, this base has grown more than sixfold. Starting with 131.49 million broadband subscribers in November 2015, the number surged to 1 billion by November 2025, as per the Ministry of Communications.
The total number of Internet subscribers in India rose from 1002.85 million in Q1 FY26 to 1017.81 million in Q2 FY26, marking a 1.49% quarterly growth, according to recent data from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). Among the 1,070.81 million internet subscribers, 44.42 million are wired internet subscribers, while 973.39 million are wireless internet subscribers.
In the same period, the broadband internet subscriber base saw a 1.63% increase from 979.71 million in June to 995.63 million in September. Conversely, narrowband internet subscribers decreased from 23.14 million to 22.18 million over the same quarters. Wireline subscribers dropped from 47.49 million to 46.61 million, with a quarterly decline rate of 1.84%. However, wireline subscriptions saw a 26.21% year-on-year increase by the end of the July-September quarter.
The wireless service’s monthly Average Revenue Per User (ARPU) also saw a 10.67% year-on-year increase in the quarter.
