India’s External Affairs Minister, S Jaishankar, engaged in discussions with Greece’s Minister of National Defence, Nikos Dendias, during the latter’s official visit to New Delhi. Dendias, who was invited by India’s Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, expressed anticipation for meetings with both Indian ministers and participation in the India–EU Forum on international developments and security issues. Previously, Dendias visited Washington, where he discussed strategic challenges and defense contracts with US officials.
Dendias’ visit to the US coincided with the passage of the Eastern Mediterranean Gateway Act in Congress, emphasizing the region’s significance in connecting India, the Middle East, and Europe under the India–Middle East–Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC). IMEC, established in 2023 with US support, aims to enhance connectivity through rail, ports, energy, and digital networks, with the Eastern Mediterranean playing a pivotal role as a gateway to Europe.
