India’s Global Capability Centres (GCCs) are transitioning from back offices to innovation hubs, with 93% of employees being Gen Z and millennials, intensifying the competition for talent. Great Place To Work India’s report highlighted that India hosts 53% of the world’s GCCs, employing over 1.9 million professionals.
GCCs, established by multinational organizations, drive strategic and innovation-led work. The study found that 85% of GCC employees report positive workplace experiences, emphasizing the significance of a strong workplace culture as these centers expand.
The GCC ecosystem in India is concentrated in six key cities, including Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Delhi-NCR. By 2028, the number of operational GCCs is expected to surpass 2,100, growing at an estimated annual rate of 8%.
GCCs are projected to drive 35-40% of India’s office space demand this year, reflecting their increasing economic impact. Balbir Singh, CEO of Great Place To Work India, emphasized the need for decisive action to enhance trust, growth, and recognition within GCCs.
Trust levels within GCCs are at 82%, comparable to the IT sector but lagging behind industries like retail and healthcare. Employees value GCCs for their infrastructure, advanced technologies, and flexible work models supporting work-life balance.
With women constituting one-third of the workforce in GCCs, these centers exhibit a stronger inclusion profile compared to the national average of 26%.
