India’s High Commissioner to Australia, Nagesh Singh, highlighted the significance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming third visit to Australia in a decade as a key indicator of the rapidly advancing bilateral relations. Singh emphasized the comprehensive nature of the relationship, which was elevated to a comprehensive strategic partnership in 2020, covering various aspects such as defense, security, trade, investment, technology, clean energy, education, and mobility.
Singh underscored the alignment between India and Australia in the global scenario, citing shared geopolitical interests in an open, inclusive, rule-based Indo-Pacific region fostering peace and prosperity for all. He emphasized the common values of democracy, multiculturalism, and rule-based governance that both nations uphold, aiming to ensure peace and stability for their citizens. Singh expressed optimism about the continued growth of ties between the two countries, given their mutual ambitions and complementarities.
Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to visit Melbourne on July 10 at the invitation of Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. The visit aims to strengthen cooperation in defense, security, trade, investment, education, mobility, and people-to-people connections. Singh praised the Indian diaspora in Australia for playing a pivotal role in enhancing bilateral relations, describing them as a vital link between the two nations, contributing significantly to various spheres including politics and business.
Describing the relationship between India and Australia as consequential, Singh highlighted the significance of the Annual Leaders’ Summit, where leaders from both countries engage annually. This year marks the third such summit, reflecting the deepening ties between the nations. The High Commissioner emphasized the growing depth of the relationship, showcasing the strong bond and mutual commitment to further enhancing cooperation.
