India’s unemployment rate for individuals aged 15 and above stayed consistent in December at 4.8%, slightly up from 4.7% in November, as per the Ministry of Statistics. Rural unemployment rate remained at 3.9%, while urban areas saw a rate of 6.7%. Among rural males, the unemployment rate held steady at 4.1% in December.
The urban female unemployment rate decreased to 9.1% in December from 9.3% in November. The overall Labor Force Participation Rate (LFPR) for individuals aged 15 and above increased to 56.1% in December, up from 55.8% in November. In rural areas, LFPR was 59.0% in December compared to 58.6% in November, while urban LFPR slightly dropped to 50.2% from 50.4%.
For females aged 15 and above, the overall labor force participation rate rose to 35.3% in December from 35.1% in November. Rural female participation increased to 40.1% in December from 39.7% in the previous month, while urban female participation decreased to 25.3% from 25.5% in November.
The Worker Population Ratio (WPR) for individuals aged 15 and above showed improvement in December. Rural male WPR increased to 76.0% from 75.4% in November, while urban male WPR declined to 70.4% from 70.9%, resulting in an overall male WPR of 74.1%.
