International Shooting has commenced at the Dr Karni Singh Shooting Ranges in Delhi with the Asian Championship Rifle/Pistol competition kicking off. The event, spanning over 10 days, will culminate on Friday, February 13, 2026, with the distribution of final medals. A total of 311 athletes from 20 countries, including India, are participating in both junior and senior categories, vying for 30 medal sets. Concurrently, youth events will also be held alongside the main competition.
India leads the contingent with the largest team of 118 athletes, followed by Kazakhstan with 35 athletes. Noteworthy squads from Korea, Iran, and Japan are also in attendance, while shooters from Chinese Taipei, Vietnam, and Hong Kong are expected to deliver strong performances. NRAI secretary general Pawankumar Singh emphasized the significance of the championship, stating that it marks a crucial year for Indian Shooting and Asian Shooters. The upcoming Asian Games and World Championships hold substantial importance, with the latter offering the first Los Angeles quota places.
Preceding the official competitions, Tuesday will feature pre-event training, leading to the commencement of the main competitions on Wednesday. The initial day will witness four significant finals, including the men’s and women’s 10m air pistol, as well as the junior and youth men’s 10m air pistol events.
