Indian Premier League (IPL) chairman Arun Dhumal has advised cricketers to focus on their on-field performance rather than social media activities during tournaments. Dhumal emphasized the importance of staying dedicated to cricket and not getting distracted by creating social media content like reels and behind-the-scenes videos. He cited Virat Kohli as an example of a player with a significant social media following who remains focused on cricket during important matches.
Dhumal’s comments come in light of increasing attention on players’ social media engagements during the IPL 2026 season. Cricketer Arshdeep Singh faced controversy after reportedly receiving a warning from the BCCI for sharing behind-the-scenes vlogs involving teammates. One of his vlogs allegedly captured Yuzvendra Chahal vaping during a team flight, leading to viral clips on social media.
Another incident involved a Snapchat video featuring Tilak Varma, where Arshdeep made comments that were criticized for potentially having racist undertones. These events have reignited discussions on player behavior and online activities throughout the IPL season. The BCCI recently issued updated operational and security guidelines to all IPL franchises, covering aspects like social media conduct, anti-corruption measures, smoking and vaping regulations, and player behavior during the tournament.
