Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman, Esmaeil Baghaei, highlighted the importance of ending the war in Lebanon as a key component of the recent peace Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Iran and the United States. The MoU aims to halt Israeli strikes on Lebanon, with a specific focus on preventing military actions in Iran or the resistance front, including Lebanon. This development signifies that negotiations for a final agreement will cease if any war or military operations occur in these regions.
During a press conference in Tehran, Baghaei mentioned that the ceasefire in Lebanon was also part of an earlier ceasefire agreement involving Iran, the US, and Israel. The MoU includes provisions such as the release of Iran’s frozen assets and the reconstruction of war-related damages. Additionally, the United States is obligated to lift various sanctions against Iran, including those imposed by the UN Security Council and the International Atomic Energy Agency.
Baghaei emphasized that the MoU requires the US to ensure Iran’s ability to sell oil and related products without hindrance. Any breach of commitments by other involved parties or US allies in the region would hold the United States accountable. Furthermore, the agreement addresses the future of the Strait of Hormuz, with Iran and Oman collaborating to guarantee safe maritime passage through the waterway. Iran aims to provide services for navigation, environmental protection, and ship insurance without seeking tolls from passing vessels.
