Iran issued a warning to the US army, cautioning against entering the Strait of Hormuz and threatening to attack any foreign armed forces, particularly the US military, if they attempt to approach or enter the strait. The statement came from Iran’s main military command, Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters. The US had announced plans to free ships stuck in the waterway, prompting Iran’s response regarding the security of the strait being under their control.
US President Donald Trump mentioned that multiple countries sought Washington’s help for vessels stranded in the strait, despite not being involved in the conflict. Trump described the US effort as “Project Freedom,” aimed at guiding ships safely out of the restricted waterways to assist neutral parties. The operation, set to start on Monday morning Middle East time, is intended to aid vessels facing challenges such as food shortages and deteriorating conditions.
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed its support for the mission starting on May 4 to restore freedom of navigation for commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. The Pentagon-led operation will involve a substantial military deployment, including guided-missile destroyers, over 100 land- and sea-based aircraft, various unmanned platforms, and approximately 15,000 service members.
