Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian emphasized that the recent Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for peace with the United States was achieved in close coordination with Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei and with the backing of the Supreme National Security Council (SNSC). Pezeshkian stated that all negotiation stages with the US were conducted in line with Iran’s overarching policies, under the guidance of the supreme leader, and in adherence to the country’s legal framework.
He mentioned that despite security considerations, the final agreement was reviewed by relevant Iranian authorities and received strong support from SNSC members. Pezeshkian hailed the MoU as a diplomatic success for Iran, affirming the nation’s unwavering commitment to its people’s rights, core principles, and national interests during negotiations with the US for a comprehensive deal.
The MoU, signed on June 18, focuses on ending regional conflicts, including in Lebanon, with ongoing discussions centering on Iran’s nuclear program and the lifting of sanctions. Pezeshkian, in a social media post, highlighted that fulfilling the agreement is a mutual responsibility, indicating Iran’s readiness to uphold its end if the US upholds theirs. He underscored Iran’s stance of responding to unreasonable threats with rational decision-making and resolute self-defense.
The President also announced the imminent release and return of Iranian assets worth 6 billion US dollars held in Qatar. Describing the MoU as a significant triumph for the Iranian people, Pezeshkian emphasized Iran’s commitment to diplomacy and national interests in its engagements with the US.
