Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi strongly denounced the brutal assault on Shajareh Tayyebeh Girl’s School in Minab, Iran, during a United Nations Human Rights Council meeting. Araghchi highlighted that the attack, part of what he termed an “illegal war,” was carried out by the United States and Israel, accusing them of disrupting diplomatic efforts.
He emphasized the deliberate nature of the attack, which resulted in the tragic loss of over 175 students and teachers. Araghchi described the assault as a war crime and a crime against humanity, calling for universal condemnation and rejecting any attempts to justify or ignore such atrocities.
Addressing the broader context of the conflict, Araghchi pointed out widespread violations of human rights and international humanitarian law by the aggressors. He stressed the need for the international community to unequivocally denounce these actions and emphasized Iran’s commitment to defending itself against relentless aggression.
The urgent debate at the UNHRC, initiated by Iran, China, and Cuba, will focus on the protection of children and educational institutions in international armed conflicts, specifically referencing the Minab school attack. This discussion has been incorporated into the agenda of the ongoing 61st regular session of the Human Rights Council.
