Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, has arrived in St Petersburg, Russia, for discussions with President Vladimir Putin. Araghchi was welcomed by Russian officials and Iran’s Ambassador to Russia, Kazem Jalali. The talks between Araghchi and President Putin are scheduled to take place in St Petersburg.
According to Jalali, the meeting will focus on recent developments following joint strikes by the US and Israel against Iran. This visit is part of ongoing “close consultations” between Iran and Russia, reflecting their shared approaches to regional and global issues. Notably, the Presidents of Iran and Russia have engaged in three phone conversations since the conflict began on February 28.
Araghchi’s trip to Russia follows his visit to Oman amidst escalating tensions in West Asia. During his stay in Oman, Araghchi met with Sultan Haitham bin Tariq to discuss bilateral relations, regional dynamics, and diplomatic efforts to address the crisis. The Iranian FM briefed Sultan Haitham on Iran’s perspective regarding the conflict and appreciated Oman’s support for dialogue and stability in the region.
