The ISI has strategically brought together the Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP) and Lashkar-e-Taiba in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) to confront the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in the region. Hafiz Zubair Muwahid has been appointed as the leader of this joint operation, being a trusted figure with deep ties to both outfits and the ISI. Intelligence agencies highlight Muwahid’s crucial role due to his extensive knowledge of KP and Balochistan, along with his network of informants.
Reports indicate a forthcoming major offensive as Lashkar-e-Taiba and ISKP operatives prepare to launch an assault on the TTP, supported by the Pakistan Army. Residents in Tirah have been instructed to evacuate the area promptly, with no provisions made for their relocation or sustenance. The displacement of an estimated 20,000 individuals has raised concerns, despite promises of compensation by the KP administration.
Security analysts foresee escalating turmoil in the region, anticipating further displacements and a prolonged conflict with the TTP. Muwahid has instructed ISKP and Lashkar-e-Taiba members to intensify their efforts against the TTP, cautioning locals against aiding the enemy under severe consequences. Indian agencies are monitoring the situation closely, wary of potential infiltration into Jammu and Kashmir by ISKP operatives.
