At least 20 people lost their lives, and 57 others sustained injuries due to Israeli airstrikes in various parts of Lebanon over the past day. The total death toll has now reached 1,021, with 2,641 individuals wounded since the conflict escalated on March 2. Displacement numbers are surging as continuous attacks compel more residents to seek refuge elsewhere. Presently, 134,616 displaced individuals are taking shelter in 644 centers throughout the nation. The humanitarian situation is worsening as efforts to accommodate these displaced populations face significant challenges amid ongoing airstrikes.
Hezbollah engaged in the conflict on March 2 by firing rockets from southern Lebanon towards Israel, breaking a ceasefire that had been in place since November 27, 2024. In response, Israel launched an intensified military campaign targeting multiple regions within Lebanon. The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) expressed deep concern over the heavy exchange of fire, escalating air and ground activities, and the increased presence of Israeli forces inside Lebanese territory. UNIFIL emphasized the urgent need for all parties to adhere to UN Security Council Resolution 1701 and commit to a complete cessation of hostilities to achieve lasting stability.
UNIFIL highlighted the worrying escalation in tensions between Lebanon and Israel, particularly noting the issuance of “evacuation orders” impacting civilians on both sides of the Blue Line. Peacekeepers are actively stationed in southern Lebanon and along the Blue Line, monitoring violations, engaging with involved parties, facilitating humanitarian access, and safeguarding civilians.
