The 149th Jagannath Rath Yatra in Ahmedabad reached Saraspur, marking the completion of its first major leg. Gujarat Police is closely monitoring the event using advanced technology-driven security measures. The procession is progressing as scheduled under heavy security, with CCTV cameras covering the entire 16-km route.
Ahmedabad Cyber Cell DCP, Dr. Lavina Sinha, mentioned that the first segment reached Saraspur, while the second segment was en route. Surveillance is being conducted from the police control room, with real-time monitoring through high-resolution PTZ cameras. In addition to physical deployment, cyber surveillance has been intensified to prevent the spread of rumors and misinformation.
Police officials stated that they are monitoring all social media platforms and media channels for any misinformation. They have deployed police personnel and a cyber cell for media monitoring. Action is being taken against social media accounts spreading rumors, with a focus on maintaining security and order during the procession.
This year’s security arrangements for the Rath Yatra heavily rely on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and advanced technologies. The entire route is under surveillance, including AI-enabled social media monitoring and drone surveillance. The control room is equipped with AI and face recognition capabilities to ensure a safe and secure event.
Officials highlighted the use of high-tech drones, facial recognition cameras, audio surveillance systems, and social media monitoring to closely monitor the Rath Yatra route and surrounding areas. The annual Rath Yatra, starting from the historic Shree Jagannath Mandir in Jamalpur, follows its traditional route through Ahmedabad, with Saraspur being a significant halt. Saraspur is considered the maternal home of Lord Jagannath, where the deities receive ceremonial welcome and offerings before continuing the procession.
Considered India’s second-largest Jagannath Rath Yatra after Puri, the Ahmedabad procession is being conducted under extensive security operations. Over 31,000 police personnel, Rapid Action Force units, and other security agencies are deployed to ensure the smooth and peaceful conduct of this centuries-old religious event.
