External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar emphasized the importance of global collaboration in addressing common challenges during his speech at the Jeju Forum for Peace and Prosperity 2026 in South Korea. He highlighted the concept of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,” which signifies the world as a family, as a guiding principle for fostering a more cooperative global order. Jaishankar pointed out that issues like pandemics, terrorism, and climate change transcend national boundaries, underscoring the necessity for international cooperation.
In his address, Jaishankar also discussed the escalating weaponization, increased risk-taking, and assertive deployment of capabilities in the world. He stressed the significance of broader international cooperation to counter these trends and mitigate their impact on global stability. The minister mentioned the need to reinvent cooperation through five key steps to address the challenges facing the international order.
Jaishankar outlined these steps, including de-risking the international economy, forging new understandings among influential nations, enhancing awareness of the costs of narrow thinking, empowering the Global South, and providing global goods through shared efforts. He emphasized the importance of upholding international law and regimes while advocating for a reformed multilateralism to ensure a more stable and prosperous future.
