External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to talk about various global hotspots. They covered topics including West Asia, Ukraine, and Sudan during their discussions. Jaishankar also highlighted the strong cooperation between India and the UN.
The situation in West Asia, especially the tensions between the US and Iran, is a significant concern for India. The region’s energy supplies passing through the Strait of Hormuz have been affected by the conflict. Jaishankar visited New York briefly to launch India’s bid for a Security Council seat next year.
During his visit, Jaishankar emphasized India’s commitment to dialogue and diplomacy in a world facing escalating conflicts. He presented a manifesto focused on promoting peace and cooperation, particularly in the Asia Pacific region. India is set to compete for a non-permanent seat on the Security Council for the 2028–2029 term.
