External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar highlighted the increasing expectation from emerging markets and developing countries for BRICS to play a constructive role in global uncertainties. Speaking at the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in New Delhi under India’s 2026 chairship, Jaishankar welcomed delegates and stressed the importance of their support in advancing the group’s work. He noted the current global flux marked by conflicts, economic challenges, and trade uncertainties, emphasizing the need for BRICS to provide stability.
The meeting brought together foreign ministers and diplomats from BRICS member and partner nations to discuss major global and regional developments. Jaishankar underscored the importance of addressing development-related concerns within the BRICS agenda, focusing on energy, food, health security, and economic resilience. He also highlighted the urgent need for collective action on climate change and the impact of technological advancements on global governance and growth.
