External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar recently participated in India’s first Weimar Triangle engagement, where he had discussions with French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-Noël Barrot, German Minister of State for Europe and Climate Action Anna Lührmann, and Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski. Jaishankar highlighted the importance of India’s relations with the European Union and its member states, emphasizing the potential for deeper cooperation.
During the meeting, Jaishankar addressed key areas such as India-European Union relations, the Indo-Pacific region, and the conflict in Ukraine. He expressed confidence in elevating India-Europe relations with the support of France, Germany, and Poland. Jaishankar also emphasized the need for collaboration among like-minded countries in the face of global uncertainties and shifts in the international order.
Earlier in the day, Jaishankar held bilateral talks with French Foreign Minister Barrot to review the strategic partnership between India and France. They discussed enhancing cooperation across various sectors and global issues, with Jaishankar expressing India’s anticipation of welcoming French President Emmanuel Macron. Overall, the discussions underscored the growing strategic alignment between India and key European powers.
