The Jal Shakti Ministry organized the 10th District Collectors’ Peyjal Samvad to discuss advancing the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) 2.0. Led by Ashok K.K. Meen, Secretary of the Department of Drinking Water & Sanitation, the meeting focused on sustainable rural water service delivery. The mission now emphasizes assured and sustainable piped water service through community-led governance.
Five districts showcased best practices under JJM 2.0, signaling a shift towards community ownership. Meena stressed the importance of certifying Har Ghar Jal Gram Panchayats and promoting annual community-led events like Jal Arpan. Kamal Kishore Soan, Additional Secretary and Mission Director, highlighted the role of district administrations in ensuring safe drinking water availability in rural areas.
District Collectors were urged to enhance convergence across departments, review implementation regularly, and promote innovation. The meeting emphasized the significance of 16th Finance Commission Grants for Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene in bolstering rural water and sanitation services. The progress and best practices of selected districts were shared to encourage cross-learning and support other districts in implementing JJM 2.0.
